Non-Standard Pathways and Combined Programs
Non-Standard Pathways and Combined Programs
The American Board of Pediatrics requires physicians to satisfactorily complete residency training in general pediatrics before applying for certification in general pediatrics. The standard training requirement is 3 years; however, other pathways exist for physicians who wish to combine training in pediatrics with that of another specialty. In addition, special pathways are available to residents committed to an academic career as physician-scientists.
Alternate pathways that require the submission of a petition by the training program for ABP's review must be submitted via the ABP Program Portal.
- Pediatrics-Neurology
- Pediatrics-Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
- Allergy and Immunology
- Accelerated Research Pathway (ARP)
- Integrated Research Pathway (IRP)
- Alternative Pathway for Academic Faculty
Residents may choose to pursue training in an approved program that offers combined training in pediatrics and another specialty. View information regarding these Combined Programs.
