ABSTRACT:

Background and Objectives
There is an urgent need to prepare pediatricians to care for children with behavioral and mental health (B/MH) conditions. In this study, we evaluate the perceived competence of pediatric residents and recent graduates in the assessment and treatment of B/MH conditions, characterize variation in competence across residency programs, and identify program characteristics associated with high competence.

Methods
Cross-sectional survey of applicants for the initial certifying examination in pediatrics. Questions were focused on (1) who should be competent...

ABSTRACT:

Objectives
The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) subboard developed a content outline to serve as a blueprint for the inaugural certification examination through practice analysis. The systematic approach of practice analyses process is described in the study.

Methods
A diverse, representative panel of 12 pediatric hospitalists developed the draft content outline using multiple resources (publications, textbooks, PHM Core Competencies, PHM fellow’s curriculum, etc). The panel categorized practice knowledge into 13 domains and 202 subdomains...

ABSTRACT:

Recent discussions have brought attention to the utility of contribution analysis for evaluating the effectiveness and outcomes of medical education programs, especially for complex initiatives such as competency-based medical education. Contribution analysis focuses on the extent to which different entities contribute to an outcome. Given that health care is provided by teams, contribution analysis is well suited to evaluating the outcomes of care delivery. Furthermore, contribution analysis plays an important role in analyzing program- and system-level outcomes that inform program...

ABSTRACT:

Purpose
To determine which narrative performance level for each general pediatrics EPA reflects the minimum level clinical competency committees (CCCs) felt should be associated with graduation as well as initial entrustment and compare the narratives associated with the expected narrative performance levels (ENPLs) for each EPA with actual narrative performance levels (ANPLs) assigned to residents at initial entrustment.

Method
A series of 5 narratives, corresponding to the 5 milestone performance levels, were developed for each of the 17 general pediatrics...

ABSTRACT:

Importance
Geographic proximity to a pediatric subspecialist is a key factor in obtaining specialized care. However, comparative data regarding the number of pediatric subspecialists, distribution of subspecialists, and patient proximity to subspecialists in the United States between 2003 and 2019 have not been explored; the last known national analysis was published in 2006 and used data from 2003.

Objective
To compare the number and distribution of pediatric subspecialists and patient proximity to pediatric subspecialists in the United States between 2003...
