Dr. Sarah Long Recognized for Career in Pediatric Infectious Diseases

The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) congratulates Sarah S. Long, MD, on receiving the Distinguished Physician Award from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS).

Dr. Long is Professor of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine and Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. She also chaired the ABP’s Board of Directors (2003) and chaired the ABP’s first subspecialty board of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

The PIDS Distinguished Physician Award is presented annually to a pediatrician who has an extensive and distinguished career in pediatric infectious diseases as a clinician, educator and/or investigator.

Dr. Long is renowned for her research in vaccine preventable diseases and management of common infectious diseases in children. She also has served as President of PIDS and of the Medical Staff at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Dr. Long is the founding and current Chief Editor of the textbook, Principles and Practice of Pediatric Infectious Disease, and has received numerous other awards and honors for her outstanding work to improve the health and well-being of children.
