Dr. Nanci Yuan, 1968–2016

Dr. Nanci YuanNanci Yuan, M.D., former pediatric pulmonology subboard member to the American Board of Pediatrics, died on July 1, 2016, after a 12-month battle with colon cancer.

An expert in pediatric pulmonary and sleep medicine, Dr. Yuan taught students, residents, and colleagues through her training at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland (Pediatrics) and Children's Hospital Los Angeles (Pediatric Pulmonary). She continued to teach and mentor as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonary Medicine) at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Yuan was a great contributor to the improved care of patients with pulmonary, sleep, and neuromuscular diseases, including spinal muscular atrophy and congenital myopathies. Dr. Yuan also made important contributions to the field as a member of the American Board of Pediatrics' Pediatric Pulmonology subboard in 2015 and 2016.

Dr. Yuan is survived by her husband, Ricky Chang, two children, Neo and Claire. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Yuan asked for monetary gifts to be collected for her children.
