Board Chair-Elect Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Stacy NicholsonThe American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) congratulates Stacy Nicholson, MD, MPH, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at Habersham Central High School in July. As the first recipient of this honor and to commemorate the school’s 50th graduation, Dr. Nicholson was invited to give the commencement address. He graduated from the school in 1977.

Dr. Nicholson is chair-elect of the ABP’s Board of Directors and will assume the role of chair in 2021. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2015 and previously chaired the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Subboard. He also has served on or chaired the Audit, Charter and Bylaws, Executive, Finance, Long-Term Investment, and Nominating committees, and the ABP Foundation Board of Directors.

“A lot of what I’ve learned in life, I learned right here on this field,” Dr. Nicholson said to the graduates. He said the early influences in his life provided the framework for his leadership in medicine.

As President of Atrium Health Levine Children’s and Chair of Pediatrics at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, Dr. Nicholson oversees all of Atrium Health’s primary care and subspecialty pediatric practices. A national leader in pediatrics, he has led a variety of educational initiatives and research programs, including publishing clinical trials on pediatric oncology and cancer survivorship studies. He is currently meeting Maintenance of Certification requirements in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
