Pediatrics Organizations

Federation of Pediatric Organizations (FOPO)
FOPO is an umbrella organization made up of the leadership of the Academic Pediatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Pediatric Society, the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs, the Association of Pediatric Program Directors, and the Society for Pediatric Research.

American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
The AAP is a membership organization for pediatricians, medical students, and other pediatric care team members. The AAP provides advocacy, education, and resources to empower, support, and inform pediatricians to provide quality care to children. AAP members who are also ABP-certified are "fellows" of the AAAP, designated by "FAAP" after their name. The organization also provides the Healthy Children website for parents and caregivers.

Academic Pediatric Association (APA)
The APA is a membership-based faculty development organization for pediatric academicians. Its mission is to nurture the academic success and career development of child health professionals engaged in research, advocacy, improvement science and educational scholarship to enhance the health and well-being of all children.

American Pediatric Society (APS)
The APS is a membership-based academic pediatric organization dedicated to the advancement of child health through the promotion of pediatric research, recognition of achievement, and cultivation of excellence through advocacy, scholarship, education and leadership development.

Society for Pediatric Research (SPR)
SPR is a multi-disciplinary network of diverse researchers working to improve child health. The organization facilitates communication among and between researchers, promotes research collaborations through mentoring and knowledge sharing, and advocates for funding and policies supportive of research.

Council of Pediatric Subspecialties (CoPS)
CoPS advances child health through communication and collaboration within its network of pediatric subspecialties and liaison organizations. The organization aims to be a resource for sharing and developing expertise among pediatric subspecialties.

Medical Specialty Boards

American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
ABMS supports 24 certifying boards, including the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), and nearly one million board-certified physicians who are aiming higher to better serve their patients, families, and communities. ABMS programs and services help support physician professional development throughout their careers with opportunities for research and leadership, earning quality improvement credit for continuing certification, locating practice-relevant CME, and using assessments as a catalyst for learning.


Health Care Quality Organizations

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)
IHI is a not-for-profit organization driving the improvement of health by advancing the quality and value of health care.

National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ)
NICHQ seeks to catalyze a national commitment to improve health care for children, as well as to achieve better outcomes in practices that care for children by developing, testing and deploying new methods to provide and improve care.
